Put a link in an announcement, a comment or a message

You want to send families a reading, a video or the school's website. Paste the address into your text. LinoClass turns it into an underlined, bold link, and parents tap it to open it in a new tab.

  • the body of an announcement, in the "Dashboard" feed;
  • the comments under a post in the feed;
  • the messages of a conversation with a parent;
  • the text that comes with an assigned activity, in the feed.

Parents see the same links you do. The link is made when the text is shown, so an announcement or a message written before this change also shows its addresses as links.

  1. Open the page you want to share in your browser.
  2. Copy the full address from the address bar. It starts with https:// or http://.
  3. Paste it into your announcement, comment or message, with a space before and after.
  4. Publish or send.

You can end the sentence right after the address. A period, a comma, an exclamation mark, an ellipsis or a quotation mark that follows the address stays outside the link. So does a closing parenthesis, unless the address itself holds the matching opening one. French guillemets are never part of the link.

In the feed, a long text is cut after eight lines. A link further down only shows after "Show more". Put the address that matters at the top.

When the address stays plain text

  • The address does not start with http:// or https://, for example www.school.ca or school.ca. It stays text. For an announcement, tap "Edit announcement" in the card's menu and add https:// in front. For a comment or a message, write it again with the full address.
  • The address is in the announcement title. The title does not make links; put the address in "Body".
  • The address has a space in it. The link stops at the space and the rest stays text. Copy the address from the browser's address bar instead of typing it.
  • You are looking at the "Preview" in the "New announcement" window. The preview shows the address as plain text. The link appears in the feed once the announcement is published.

If the link is underlined but the page does not open, the address itself is wrong or the page was taken down. Open it in your browser to check, then edit the announcement with the right address.
