Choosing your classroom's QR code hours
The classroom QR code only works during a window of hours. By default that is the school's window, which the school administrator chooses. You can narrow it for your classroom alone, for instance so the code only works after 8:00 or stops earlier than 15:00, without changing anything for the other classrooms in the school.
Where the setting is
Open "My account", then the "School" section. Under "School name", the "Classroom QR code hours" card shows two lists, "Opens" and "Closes". Under the lists, LinoClass reminds you of the school's window, for instance "Your classroom's QR code only works during these hours. It must also fall inside the school's window, which is 6:00 to 18:00."
Only the classroom's own teacher sees this card. A person invited to collaborate in the classroom does not see it and cannot change these hours.
Choosing your hours
- In "Opens", choose the hour the code starts working.
- In "Closes", choose the hour it stops working.
- Tap "Save", under the lists.
LinoClass shows "Hours saved". The lists only offer hours inside the school's window, so you cannot open the code earlier or close it later than the school does.
The closing hour itself is excluded. With a closing hour of 15:00, a student can get in at 14:59, and not at 15:00.
The change applies right away. The "Class QR code" page and the printed poster show your classroom's hours, for instance "Available from 8:00 to 15:00 on school days". A poster already on the wall keeps the hours printed on it; reprint it if you want it to show the new ones. The code itself does not change.
Going back to the school's window
Once your classroom has its own hours, the card also shows "Use the school's window". Tap it to clear your hours: the code follows the school's window again, including any later change to it.
What a student sees outside the hours
A student who scans the code outside your classroom's hours sees "The school is asleep right now". Before opening time, LinoClass tells them when they can log in, for instance "You can log in starting at 8:00.". After closing time, they read "Come back tomorrow starting at 8:00!".
A tablet already signed in with the classroom code also stops working at your classroom's closing hour, even if the student's session has not reached its two hours.
When it does not work
- "The opening hour must be before the closing hour". The two hours are in the wrong order, or the same. Choose an opening hour earlier than the closing hour, then tap "Save" again.
- An error message appears under the lists after "Save". Nothing was saved; your previous hours stay in place. If the message mentions the school's window, the school changed its window in the meantime: reload the page and the lists will show the new window. Otherwise, check the connection and try again.
- The card shows an error message instead of the lists. It could not read the hours. Reload the page.
- "Save" stays greyed out. It only turns on once one of the two hours has changed.
- The school narrowed its window after you set yours. Your hours are combined with the school's: the code works only while both windows are open. If the school's new window no longer shares a single hour with yours, for instance a classroom set to 8:00 to 10:00 and a school that moves to 12:00 to 16:00, the school's window applies. Choose new hours inside the school's window, or tap "Use the school's window".
Frequently asked questions
Do my hours change the other classrooms' hours?
No. They apply to your classroom only. The other classrooms in the school keep the school's window, or their own hours.
Who changes the school's window?
An account carrying the school administrator role, in the same "School" section. The page Find your settings in "My account" explains it.
Do I need a new code after changing the hours?
No. The same code keeps working, only during the new hours. Reprint the poster if you want the hours printed on it to be current.
