Change the language of the app
LinoClass has two language settings, and they do not do the same thing. "Interface language" decides the language of your screen. "Classroom language" decides the language of the emails sent to the parents of the class. You can read LinoClass in English while your parents get their emails in French.
Change the language of the screen
- Open "My account", then "Preferences".
- In the "Interface language" card, under "App language", choose "Français" or "English".
- The page reloads in the chosen language. The menu, the class pages and the LinoClass messages follow.
The card says so: "The language you read Linoclass in. It does not change the language of the emails sent to parents." The choice is kept in this browser and in your account. Before anyone signs in, on a device where nothing has been chosen yet, LinoClass takes the browser's language, and French if the browser gives none.
The same choice exists on the sign-in page, before you enter: the button with a globe, at the top of the page, shows the current language. Tap it to switch to the other one. This button only changes the language of this device, not the one in your account.
On another device
When you sign in, LinoClass puts the screen in the language kept in your account, once per sign-in. A new tablet or another computer opens in your language, even if the globe on the sign-in page showed the other one. If you have never chosen a language in LinoClass, nothing changes when you sign in.
After you sign in, you can still change the language of the screen; the new choice becomes your account's language. A device that is already signed in keeps its language until its next sign-in.
When the language does not change
The choice is greyed out while the page reloads. If the page comes back in the same language, reload it once. If it stays in the old language, your browser refuses cookies for this site: LinoClass keeps the choice in a cookie, and without it the language goes back to the browser's language on every visit. Allow cookies for app.linoclass.ca, then choose the language again.
If another device still opens in the old language after a new sign-in, the choice did not reach your account, for example because the Internet connection dropped during the switch. LinoClass shows no error in that case. Choose the language again under "Preferences" with a good connection, then sign in again on the other device.
If a word or a page stays in the other language after the switch, write to us at support@linoclass.ca with the name of the page.
Dates, times and amounts follow the language of the screen
When the screen is in English, dates are written in English: 4 août 2026 becomes August 4, 2026 on the feed cards, the portfolio tiles and the student pages. Times follow, 21 h 30 becomes 9:30 p.m., and so do the amounts on the "Billing" page, 99,00 $ becomes $99.00. The words around a date change with the rest: "Today", "Yesterday", "Just now", "Last 7 days", "Never".
The time itself does not move. LinoClass always shows Quebec time, in both languages, and wherever you open the app from.
A portfolio file that a parent downloads is the exception. It carries the date as 2026-08-04 in both languages, so the files sort in order on their computer.
If a date stays in French on an English screen, or the other way around, write to us at support@linoclass.ca with the name of the page.
Change the language of the emails to parents
This setting belongs to the class owner. A collaborator does not see it.
- Open "My account", then "Class".
- In the "Classroom language" card, under "Email language", choose "Français" or "English".
- Tap "Save" in the bar that appears at the bottom of the screen. LinoClass confirms with "Changes saved".
The card explains what the choice covers: "The language parent-facing emails (announcements, weekly digest) are sent in." Emails already sent do not change. The choice applies to this class only; another class has its own.
A parent chooses the language of their own screen, the same way you do. Your "Email language" choice does not change what they see in the app, only what they receive by email.
Frequently asked questions
Show LinoClass in English to a colleague.
Open "My account", "Preferences", and set "App language" to "English". Your parents keep getting their emails in the classroom language. Set "Français" back after the demo.
The app is in English and parents still get French.
That is the expected setting. The language of the emails is "Email language", in the "Class" section, not "App language". Change it there if you want English emails.
The language differs on my tablet and my computer.
A device takes your account's language when you sign in on it, then keeps it until the next sign-in. On the device that is not in the right language, open "My account", "Preferences", and choose the language again.
A parent sees the app in the wrong language.
They change their own language the same way, in their settings or with the globe on the sign-in page. You cannot change it for them.
