Delete your LinoClass account

A teacher or a parent can delete their LinoClass account without the app, from a public page: app.linoclass.ca/account-deletion. It opens in any browser, signed in or not, in English or in French, under the title "Delete your LinoClass account".

Deletion is immediate. There is no grace period, and we cannot bring back a deleted account.

Delete your account yourself

  1. Open app.linoclass.ca/account-deletion in the browser where you are signed in to LinoClass.
  2. Under "Delete my account now", the page shows the email of the signed-in account. Check that it is the account you want to delete.
  3. In "Type your email to confirm", type that same email. Capitals and surrounding spaces do not matter.
  4. Tap "Delete my account". The button stays greyed out while the box is empty, and reads "Deleting..." while it works.
  5. The page confirms with "Your account and its data have been deleted." and signs you out of this browser.

Above the box, the page warns in red: "This action is irreversible. All your data will be deleted."

In the iPad or iPhone app

The LinoClass app on iPad and iPhone has the same button, without going through the browser.

  1. Open "Settings". A parent taps their avatar, at the top right of the screen. A teacher then opens "Account".
  2. Tap "Delete my account", in red, at the very bottom.
  3. A window asks for your email. Type the account's email, then tap "Delete permanently". "Cancel" closes the window and changes nothing.
  4. Once the account is deleted, the app signs you out and goes back to the sign-in screen.

A parent with no child linked to the account yet sees a waiting screen instead of their child's feed. The "Delete my account" button is there too, under "Log out".

If the email you typed is not the account's, the app shows "The email does not match your account." under the button, and nothing is deleted. Tap "Delete my account" again and copy the exact email. If the deletion fails for another reason, a red message under the button asks you to try again in a moment or to write to support@linoclass.ca. Your account is still there. Try again on a good Internet connection, or go through app.linoclass.ca/account-deletion.

What is erased

The page lists it under "What is deleted". For every account, that is the account, its sign-in sessions, its notification settings, conversations and messages with their images, comments, reactions, consent records, the subscription and data exports.

For a teacher, deletion also takes the classrooms they own, with their students, portfolios, media files and the activities they created. They are removed from the classrooms they co-teach. Keep what you need before you delete your account.

For a parent, deletion removes the links to their children's profiles. The profiles themselves stay in the teacher's classroom.

The "What stays" section of the page says what is kept after deletion.

You are not signed in

When you are signed out, the page shows "Not signed in?" and two choices.

  • "Sign in" opens the sign-in page. Once you are signed in, if LinoClass does not bring you back to the deletion page, open app.linoclass.ca/account-deletion again and follow the steps above.
  • "Email support@linoclass.ca" opens an email to our support. Write from the address linked to your account and ask for its deletion. This is the way to go if you can no longer sign in.

When deletion does not go through

If the page shows "The email does not match your account.", the email you typed is not the one of the signed-in account. Copy the one the page shows above the box. If that is not the account you meant to delete, sign out of LinoClass, sign in with the right account and come back to the page.

If the page shows "We could not delete your account. Try again or email support@linoclass.ca.", your account was not deleted, or not entirely. Try once more on a good Internet connection. If the message comes back, email support@linoclass.ca from the account's address.

Frequently asked questions

Can a student delete their account on this page?

No. The page is for teachers and parents. A student's profile belongs to their teacher's classroom, and the teacher manages it in "My students".

Does removing the app from my phone delete my account?

No. The account stays until you delete it at app.linoclass.ca/account-deletion, with "Delete my account" in the app, or ask support@linoclass.ca to delete it.
