Joining your school when you create your account

When you create your account, LinoClass tries to link you to the real school behind your institution, not just a name you typed. That link decides whether you share the school's settings with your colleagues, or end up on your own in a school of your own.

Confirming your email address

After "Create my account", the "Email verification" page opens. It names the address we sent the email to. Check it: if it has a typo, tap "Back" and fix it. Then type the six-digit code from the email and tap "Verify code". The code stays valid for 15 minutes.

If your address already has a LinoClass account, the email does not contain a code. It contains a sign-in link to the LinoClass sign-in page. The verification page is the same for every address, and it says so. In that case, do not wait for a code: under "Already have an account?", tap "Sign in". If you no longer remember your password, tap "Forgot password?".

When the code does not work:

  • "Invalid code. Please try again.": the code you typed does not match. Copy it again from the latest email.
  • "This code has expired. Please request a new one.": tap "Resend code", then use the new code.
  • Nothing in your inbox: the page reminds you "Didn't receive it? Check your spam folder." Then tap "Resend code". If the address already has an account, the new email again contains a sign-in link, not a code.

Searching for your school

The "Your school" step asks for the name of your institution. LinoClass explains: "Start typing, then pick your school." A list of results appears under the field; tap the one that matches. The "Not the right school? Search again." button restarts the search if you picked the wrong one.

If your school does not show up in the list, tap "My school is not in the list". The field turns into free text, with the hint "Enter the name of your school." The "Search the list of schools" link goes back to the search.

Picking a school from the list is not enough on its own to link you to it. LinoClass only confirms the link in one of these cases: you already belong to it, your email address carries the domain associated with that school, or someone has already prepared an invitation for your exact address. For a private school, the recognized domain is the school's own. For a public school, it is the domain of its school board: any teacher at the same board can join any of that board's schools this way.

When none of these cases apply, LinoClass does not say so and your class is created anyway, right away. Your account ends up in a school of its own, carrying the same name as the one you picked, but separate from your colleagues' school. The same thing happens when you type the name yourself with "My school is not in the list": free text always creates a school of its own, never a link to an existing school.

When the administration must approve your arrival

If your school has a LinoClass licence and at least one member of its administration has the administrator role there, a recognized email domain no longer lets you in right away. When you create your class, LinoClass shows "Request sent to your school", with the explanation "This school has a licence, so its administration must approve your arrival. You can create your class as soon as they do." Your class is not created at that point.

LinoClass does not tell you when the administration has answered. Go back to creating your class and tap "Create my class" again. If the request was approved, your account belongs to the school and the class is created. If it is still waiting, the same message comes back. If the administration denied it, tapping "Create my class" sends a new request, and the same message comes back.

This approval does not apply in the other cases. An invitation prepared for your exact address lets you in right away, licence or not. A school with no active licence, or with nobody in the administrator role, also lets you in right away through its domain. If your request was waiting and the school's licence ended, or nobody holds that role any more, tapping "Create my class" again lets you in without waiting.

Approving requests, for the administration

Someone with the administrator role at the school has a school dashboard. It counts the school's "Teachers", "Classrooms" and "Students". The "Licence" card shows how many classes the school uses and how many its licence covers, or "No active licence". When the school has more classes than the licence covers, the card adds "More classes than the licence covers".

The "Join requests" card lists the colleagues who are waiting, with their name, their email address and the date of their request. Tap "Approve" to link the account to the school, or "Deny" to turn the request down. With no request, the card shows "No pending requests". The "Teachers" page lists the school's accounts, with the number of classes and students for each; "Administration" follows the email address of administrators.

If the dashboard does not load, LinoClass shows "Could not load the dashboard." Reload the page. If an approval or a denial fails, the message "That did not work. Try again." appears and the request stays in the list. An approval also fails when the person already has a class in another school, since LinoClass does not move an existing class from one school to another.

What that separation changes

A feature turned off for a whole school, such as points, messaging with parents or comments, and the QR code hours in the "School" section of "My account", belong to the school as LinoClass knows it for your account. If your account ended up in a school of its own, those settings do not line up with your colleagues', even if you teach in the same building. The page Find your settings in "My account" describes those settings.

Getting linked afterward

Nothing in LinoClass today lets you prepare an invitation yourself, or ask for a new verification from inside the app. Ask the person who manages LinoClass at your school or school board to prepare an invitation for your exact address. If your request is waiting for the administration's approval, the administration approves it in "Join requests".

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I am in the same school as my colleagues?

The app does not show this directly. One concrete sign: if your school turned off points or messaging for everyone and that choice does not apply to you, or the other way around, your accounts are not linked to the same school.

Can I change schools myself after creating my account?

No. The "School" card in "My account" is read-only, with the note "To change this information, contact your administrator".

Does a personal email address stop me from joining my school?

Yes, unless an invitation already exists for that exact address. The recognized domain is the school's or its school board's, never a personal address. Once the link is confirmed, the QR code hours and the other school settings show up in Find your settings in "My account".

My request has been waiting a long time. What can I do?

LinoClass does not send the administration a reminder. Talk directly to the person in the administration who manages LinoClass, then tap "Create my class" again once they have approved your request.
